Young musicians took the blues, added a generous dose of Southern soul, roots, country and swagger, and turned it into something loud, loose and unmistakably their own.At the heart of it all were the Allman Brothers Band, the godfathers of Southern rock. With Duane Allman’s legendary slide guitar, long-form improvisation, twin-guitar harmonies and a rhythm section built to groove, they laid down the blueprint for a whole new generation of rock ’n’ roll.Then came Lynyrd Skynyrd, taking the sound to another level with their unmistakable three-guitar attack, Southern grit and anthemic songwriting.
