About This Event
MUSIC FOR AN EVOLVING WORLD Featuring writer, guitarist, Edi Niederlander.R400 includes Yanni's famous 2 x Course Artistry Meal**Bring your own wine14:00Please arrive in good time; there are no formal seating arrangements around the lunch tables.Legendary writer of the classic, “Ancient Dust of Africa”, Edi Niederlander brings her new brand of original Afro/World instrumentals & songs to the iconic Die Pienk Kerk to create an ambient, warm & relaxed vibe for both diners & listeners. After sell-out gigs in Cape Town, and with Johannesburg already taking notice, Edi lets her guitar do the talking, creating a cozy, unhurried event that feels like a long exhale. We love her!MORE ABOUT EDI:"In essence, I am a songwriter, musician & teacher and basically a happy individual!I have written and recorded 7 CDs of original South African/Afro/World music and am currently working on a new collection for release later this year. My ‘engine room’ powers up daily with new musical ideas and concepts. It is where I ‘live’. Growing up in the 60s in a Hungarian/South African household of music lovers, my influences are broad – as is my understanding of genre and idiom. To be engaged in a lifetime of performance, teaching, collaboration and recording has been my good fortune – and I am thankfully still inspired. In 2021, I completed a 10 early learning song collection for NGO RedInk’s numeracy project. www.redink.org.za/musicproject and am currently contributing to a national media library. It was an honour to have received a Vita award (now SAMA) for my song, Ancient Dust Of Africa, for the opening of the original Jock of the Bushveld movie, to sing from the Cape Town City Hall balcony when Nelson Mandela was released from Victor Verster & in 1998 to be commissioned by the Arts & Culture Dept. to stay as resident artist/composer on Robben Island to write a collection of songs highlighting the character of the island and reflecting the abuses of the past. This was performed on the island, at the Whale Well in Cape Town and at the Listowel Literary Festival in Ireland. Sadly, this collection was never recorded.I’ve supported Joan Armatrading in Eswatini, performed at most major venues and festivals throughout the country and abroad, and collaborated with dozens of our own wonderfully talented musicians. Performed in & co-wrote with Taylor & Van Reenen several musicals highlighting gender discrimination, nuclear threat & more – all laced with humour, while staying socially relevant. Music has defined my path in life – it is my meditation and how I wish to continue."Edi Niederlander
