DOEP IS NIE DOOD NIE - IN KERSFEESTYD
About This Event
“As dit gedaan is en verbydie aarde weer sy erfdeel krysal hierdie kluisenaar in mynog iewers in ’n boekrak bly”DOEP IS NIE DOOD NIE - IN KERSFEESTYDJannie du Toit – vocals and guitar Susan Mouton – cello Chanie Jonker – piano and accordion In this performance, Jannie combines Koos du Plessis’s immortal songs with a selection of the late singer-songwriters’s poems and texts. It features both Koos’s well-known songs and some of his lesser-known work, creating a tapestry representing the unbelievable scope of his oeuvre. Koos also wrote the most popular and poignant Afrikaans Christmas carol, to which Jannie contributed a final verse. Thus, the programme transitions seamlessly into the concluding section, which embraces the Christmas season. Koos Doep’s "Somerkersfees" (Summer Christmas) and other Christmas carols in various languages ??form the final part of the programme. Now in 2026, forty-two years after his passing, it is once again clear just how alive and relevant Koos Doep’s view of the world and life remains—and how striking his songwriting is. Jannie, a personal friend of Koos, continues his work of keeping Koos’s music alive for the next generation. “When all is done and past and earth reclaims it’s due this hermit within mewill remain somewhere on a bookshelf” Koos du Plessis (10 May 1945 – 15 January 1984)
