What happens when two distinct artistic worlds meet on one stage? Stogie T needs little introduction. From Tumi and the Volume to his acclaimed solo work, he has toured five continents, battled on KOTD and recorded with Styles P, Immortal Technique and collaborated with Saul Williams. He is a two-time SA Hip Hop Awards Lyricist of the Year, and his 2018 Sway in the Morning freestyle cemented his place among the sharpest lyricists in the game. The series begins on Friday 30 October with Simphiwe Dana, the Afro-soul icon whose 2004 debut Zandisile announced a major artist. She has since won 11 South African Music Awards, topped the German World Music Charts with Kulture Noir, and was named African Woman of the Year in 2016. She has played the Apollo and the Essence Festival, where she was the first South African artist on the bill, and her music is taught at Oxford. Each night will take the audience through a journey. Simphiwe will take us through her world, on her own terms. Then the two come together for a collaborative climax of reinterpreted songs, spontaneous exchanges and candid stories behind the music. Expect jazz sophistication meeting razor-sharp lyricism, in a warm, smoky room built for storytelling. The format is the constant, and the collaboration is the surprise.
