Rachmaninoff | Johnman Concerts
About This Event
Solange Rojas and Chanda Lupambo are bringing the Rachmaninoff Cello Sonata, Op19 to the Johnman Cottage stage. Join us for a special Johnman Wednesday Concert.Completed in 1901 alongside his triumphant Piano Concerto No. 2, Rachmaninoff’s Cello Sonata in G minor stands as one of the ultimate masterworks of Russian Late-Romantic chamber music. Written during a burst of renewed creativity following a severe compositional block, the work is less a cello solo and more a monumental dialogue of equals, featuring an incredibly dense, virtuosic piano part that perfectly balances the cello’s dark, expressive lyricism. Over four contrasting movements, the sonata journeys from the brooding tension of the opening Allegro moderato and the restless, driving energy of the Scherzo, into the heartbreakingly beautiful, serene Andante, before concluding with a brilliant, triumphant Allegro mosso finale.Tickets include a glass of wine, various other beverages for sale on the premise.
