ICA LIVE ART FESTIVAL | Wanne jy my naam hoor

‘Wanne jy my naam hoor’ is a dance piece that asks: What do you really hear? This performance, created by Darion Adams, explores how people and places are seen – and sometimes not seen. Rooted in Manenberg, it looks at what is noticed and what is ignored, and how a place carries history, stories, and meaning. It asks: When you hear my name, what do you feel? Is it truth, fear, distance, or connection? The title is inspired by and gives honour to Porterville-born artist Rosey Die Rapper and her song, “My naam hoor.” ‘Wanne jy my naam hoor’ was created by Darion Adams as part of their time at Purple Mountain Arts Residency.
