Set within the historic Form Building\, this masterclass explores photography as a way of observing\, questioning\, and engaging with the world. Through a comprehensive visual presentation and practical demonstrations\, Ashley will share his process\, workflows and creative decisions that have informed his photographic and commercial practice over the past fifteen years.In reference to the exhibition Sequins/Sequence as a point of departure\, attendees will explore approaches to developing photographic work with greater clarity and intention. Topics include finding your photographic direction\, editing and sequencing photographs\, building visual narratives\, the importance of printing\, making photo books\, exhibition making and balancing personal work with professional practice.While rooted in Ashley’s own practice\, the ideas explored throughout the masterclass are relevant to photographers working across all genres and at every stage of their creative journey. Whether your interests lie in long-form photography\, portraiture\, landscape\, street photography\, commercial work or personal projects\, the session offers practical ways of thinking more critically about your work and developing a focused and sustained practice.The morning concludes with an informal Open Studio Conversation around finding focus\, overcoming creative obstacles\, sustaining long-term projects and navigating the realities of life as a photographer.Participants are encouraged to continue the experience by visiting Sequins/Sequence at AVA Gallery\, where admission is free throughout the exhibition as part of the Heat Winter Arts Festival.
